Storage Boxes

PPS Equipment Management Ltd, based in the Midlands, has for years been heavily involved with plastic storage boxes.

What do we mean by “storage boxes” and what is their use as determined by the PPS customer base?

Storage boxes vary hugely in size and volume capacity from matchbox size to large pallet boxes capable of holding several tons of goods such as chemicals, machine parts, paper etc.

However PPS decided to limit its range of storage boxes, and this decision was based largely on its own experiences with returnable transit equipment (RTE). The core business of PPS is the supply on a rental and management basis of plastic pallets and plastic crates, trays or boxes. The company owns a large fleet of plastic crates and boxes which it provides to a range of businesses but mainly within the food sector.

The primary operating system of PPS is termed an “integrated loop” system which can be quite simply explained or illustrated as follows:

1. PPS supplies storage boxes to its clients
2. Client packs boxes or crates with goods and sends out to third parties
3. Client advises PPS via the PPS online asset management system “Enable” the volume of goods dispatched and end location.
4. PPS arranges collection of boxes from third parties and wherever necessary washes or sterilizes the boxes (primarily the food sector).
5. Repeat from 1 above.

PPS Suppplies and delivers storage boxes to it clients

For its own fleet of storage boxes PPS mainly uses nestable boxes made from tough, stable and chemically-resistant polypropylene. These storage boxes are industry standard with dimensions of 600 x 400 x 200mm with a polyamide bale arm system that can not only be used for carrying the storage box but acts as the support function when multi-layer storage is required.

The PPS storage boxes as described above are all provided in the distinct PPS colour livery which makes easy identification when sorting a number of differing box sizes is necessary. Some of the other advantages of this storage box are:

• Fully re-cyclable
• Hard wearing and chemically resistant
• Can be washed and sterilized
• Can be RFID tagged.
